Minor girl dies, parents critical in fire after gas leak

Jajpur: A five-year-old girl died and her parents sustained critical injuries after a fire broke out following a suspected LPG leak at a village in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Sunday.

According to preliminary information, the mishap took place at Arabala village in Dharmasala area of the district in the morning.

Sources said 35-year-old Tilottama Malik, wife of Abhiram Malik, 40, was preparing breakfast when the gas pipe reportedly burst, triggering a fire that left several family members injured.

Their daughter Mamali Malik was rushed to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre (CHC) along with other injured family members. Doctors declared the girl dead on arrival.

Abhiram and Tilottama sustained critical injuries, while the girl’s uncle, Uttam Malik (50) was also injured in the incident.

Following initial treatment at the Dharmasala CHC, the injured were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka as their condition turned critical.

On being informed, fire service personnel and police team from Kotpur outpost rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
