Baripada: A man allegedly died by suicide in an abandoned building situated near Kuliana police station in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district amid allegations of police negligence over his stolen vehicle.
The man, identified as Deepak Kumar Barik of Kamata village, was found hanging with a towel tied around his neck, sources said on Sunday. Locals claimed that he took this extreme step as a last resort due to the ongoing ordeal.
Sources said that the man had taken a Bolero vehicle on lease to earn a living. However, the vehicle was reportedly stolen around a month ago and he lodged a complaint at the Kuliana police station.
Barik repeatedly visited the police station during the last month but failed to get a satisfactory response. Having failed to get justice or assurance, the man staged a sit-in protest in front of the police station along with his wife and two sons.
Following this, police personnel convinced him to end the protest and promised to locate the vehicle. However, no concrete action was taken over the matter, reportedly.
Barik visited the police station again on Saturday, but he was not given a satisfactory response. As per reports, after this interaction with the police, he ended his life as he was already struggling mentally due to the stress of the stolen vehicle.
