Sambalpur: A lightning strike in Bandijharan village under Jujumura police limits in Sambalpur district claimed one life and left another critically injured.
The deceased, identified as Biplab Behera (55) of Baghiapada in Boudh district, had come to attend his son’s wedding ceremony at Jujumura. His younger brother, Balaram Behera (50), accompanied him. Heavy rain and thunder forced the two brothers to take shelter at Bandijharan bus stop. Suddenly, lightning struck, leaving both men seriously injured.
Locals rushed them to Jujumura Community Health Centre. Doctors referred them to Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital as their condition worsened. Despite efforts, doctors declared Bipulab Behera dead. Balaram Behera continues to receive treatment for severe injuries.
Police from Jujumura station reached the spot and began investigating the incident. Authorities confirmed that the brothers had come to attend a marriage function and were caught in the storm while returning.
