Bhubaneswar: Sahid Nagar Police in Bhubaneswar have registered a case against an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer for allegedly raping a young woman at his government quarters at Satsang Vihar and subsequently blackmailing her with a recorded video.
According to the complainant, the officer and his wife fell ill earlier this month. Following which, the officer’s sister visited them in Bhubaneswar accompanied by her friend and a young woman from Kujang.
On February 15, the officer’s wife and sister reportedly left the quarters for some errands, leaving the young woman alone with the accused. The complaint alleged that the officer invited her to watch a movie on his laptop, played obscene material and then forcibly raped her. When the victim protested and threatened to report the incident to the police, the officer claimed he had secretly recorded her while she was changing clothes in the bathroom. He allegedly threatened to make the footage public if she disclose the incident to anyone. Terrified by the blackmail, the young woman left the premises.
When the officer’s wife and sister returned home after around 4 hours, he told them that she left for her village after receiving an urgent call. The survivor initially did not disclose the assault. However, on February 18, she learned that the officer had sent a video purportedly recorded by him to a person in Kujang. She contacted the officer, and he allegedly demanded that she meet him at a hotel in Puri, threatening to send the video to her family members if she refused. Left with no other option, she approached the Sahid Nagar police station and lodged a formal complaint.
Police have recorded her statement after medical examination and launched a thorough investigation into the serious allegations of rape and criminal intimidation.
