IIT Bhubaneswar PhD Student Killed, Another Critical In Accident On Campus Road

Bhubaneswar: A PhD student was killed and another critically injured after their scooter met with an accident inside the IIT Bhubaneswar campus.

As per preliminary information, the scooter hit a divider when the two were travelling inside the IIT Bhubaneswar campus in the wee hours of Tuesday. Both sustained critical injuries in the mishap.

Both injured students were immediately rescued by the police and shifted to a hospital for treatment. However, one of them succumbed to his injuries. Campus authorities and police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident

The deceased student has been identified as Shankhashubhra Chakraborty, a PhD scholar from Kolkata. He was pursuing his research at IIT Bhubaneswar. The other student has been identified as Shakti Safar Srivastav, also a PhD scholar. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.

Institute officials and police officials have started an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident. Further details are awaited.
