Governor urges Utkal University Alumni to drive social change

Bhubaneswar: Governor and Chancellor of Utkal University Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Thursday graced the 5th Annual Function of the Alumni Association of the university and highlighted the role of education and alumni in shaping the society.

Speaking on the occasion at MKCG Auditorium here, the Governor said that education is not merely a tool for personal success but a lifelong responsibility to enlighten and transform society. He urged alumni to view education as a collective responsibility and use their knowledge to uplift communities and foster a compassionate society.

He called upon the association to look beyond supporting the university’s growth and emerge as a force for positive social change. Describing Utkal University as a “radiant beacon of knowledge” that has shaped leaders across politics, governance, science, education, literature, law, culture, business, and public life for more than eight glorious decades, the Governor said the achievements of its alumni stand as a testament to the institution’s greatness.

Each alumnus, he noted, is an ambassador of its values in the state, the nation, and beyond. He praised the association for initiatives such as mentoring students, supporting academic excellence, and promoting the “Green and Clean Campus” movement, describing these efforts as a noble commitment to giving back to the alma mater.

University life is more than academics; it is a journey of self-discovery, nurturing values, and preparing for a purposeful life. – Dr. Kambhampati.

He urged alumni to share their experiences, mentor the younger generation, and support initiatives that strengthen both the university and society. Congratulating the association on its progress, he remarked, “Though young in years, it has grown remarkably in spirit and action. This gathering reflects the deep and enduring bond you share with Utkal University.”

Addressing the gathering as chief speaker, Advocate General Pitambar Acharya felt nostalgic and shared his memories during the university days. He wished that the association would flourish, become a guiding force for the youth and continue the legacy of the university as a centre of excellence, character building and community service.
