Sambalpur: Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary has recorded a significant milestone in tourism, generating a revenue of Rs 6.02 crore during 2025–26.
The sanctuary witnessed an impressive footfall of over 1.4 lakh tourists within a year, underscoring its growing popularity as a major eco-tourism destination in Odisha. The influx included international visitors from as many as 10 countries, including United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and France, reflecting its expanding global appeal, according to official sources.
Officials highlighted that the sanctuary’s sustainable tourism initiatives have not only enhanced visitor experience but also contributed to local livelihoods. As many as 123 community members have been provided employment opportunities, strengthening the region’s socio-economic fabric.
Homestay facilities in and around Debrigarh have emerged as a major attraction, offering tourists an immersive experience of local culture and natural surroundings. These initiatives have played a key role in promoting responsible tourism while directly benefiting local communities.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Anshu Pragyan Das shared these insights, emphasizing that the sanctuary’s growth reflects a balanced approach between conservation and community development.
With rising tourist interest and continued focus on eco-friendly practices, Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is fast emerging as a benchmark for sustainable tourism in the region.
