Amrit Peedhi to lead India towards innovation & entrepreneurship, says Minister

Bhubaneswar: The Amrit Peedhi Students Global Summit was inaugurated at the Convocation Hall of Utkal University here on Thursday.

Jointly organised by Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) and Utkal University with the support of the Higher Education Department, the three-day summit will continue till December 20 with the theme “Governance of Artificial Intelligence and Its Ethics.”

Over 500 students from various universities are participating in the summit along with academicians, researchers, startup founders, senior corporate executives, professionals from national and international IT and AI companies and professors from premier institutions including IITs and AIIMS.

Inaugurating the summit, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said that Artificial intelligence (AI) is the future. AI is a product of human innovation. Emphasizing the need for responsible and ethical use of AI, he stated that the primary objective of the summit is to develop students’ skills in artificial intelligence and guide them towards its optimal application. He noted that discussions during the summit will cover AI and ethics, AI’s application in healthcare, education and industry, cyber security, AI-driven innovations and startups.

The Minister highlighted that students would actively participate in deliberations and present technical papers on AI and emerging technologies. Describing students as the foundation block of the Vision Vikshit Bharat @ 2047 and Vikshit Odisha @2036, he expressed confidence that the “Amrit Peedhi” would lead the nation towards innovation, entrepreneurship and research as India approaches the centenary of its Independence in 2047.

As part of the summit, Suraj also visited the Yuva Swadeshi Innovation Exhibition where 52 students showcased AI and technology-based innovations and projects. He interacted with the students and appreciated their innovative efforts.

The top five innovative projects showcased at the exhibition will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. The inaugural session Of the Summit was attended by Professor Hee-Cheol Kim of the College of AI Convergence, Inje University, Republic of Korea, who delivered a detailed presentation on the significance and applications of artificial intelligence.

Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University Prof. Jagneshwar Dandapat, Vice-Chancellor of VSSUT Prof. Deepak Kumar Sahu, Registrar of Utkal University Dr Swati Mishra and Registrar of VSSUT Pradeep Dang were present at the inaugural session.
