Accidents claim three lives & leave two injured in Odisha

Rayagada: Two persons died after their motorcycles collided head-on near Bada Baridi in Gunupur area of Rayagada district on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Shiba Mandangi and Arka Bhugana.

According to sources, Shiba had visited Chinariguda village for personal work and was returning home when the collision occurred with the motorcycle which Arka Bhugana was riding. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving both riders critically injured.

On being informed, personnel from Gunupur Fire Services promptly reached the spot and shifted the injured to Gunupur sub-divisional hospital, where both men were declared dead upon arrival.

Gunupur Police later reached the hospital, seized the bodies for postmortem examination, and registered a case. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

In Angul, two persons were critically injured following a series of accidents on National Highway-55. The incidents occurred near Rani Bhui School under Handapa police limits, where a truck rammed into the divider on a bridge at 7.45 am after the driver lost control over the vehicle.

Soon thereafter, a speeding trailer coming from Angul hit a youth at the same spot, where locals had gathered to assess the situation. Both victims were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kishorenagar and are reported to be in critical condition. The crowd also thrashed the trailer driver, who was later rescued by Handapa police, who reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation.

Late last night, a youth died and another sustained critical injuries after their scooter crashed into a tree, possibly due to overspeeding near Gundibira village under Sorada police limits in Ganjam district. The deceased has been identified as Raju Behera from Tareigunj village. The accident took place when Raju along with Anadi Behera was returning home after attending the engagement ceremony of a relative. While Raju died on the spot, Anadi, who was riding pillion, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to CHC at Sorada. She was later shifted to MKCG College and Hospital at Berhampur for critical care.

Sorada police have informed Raju’s family members and seized the two-wheeler. An investigation is underway into the accident.
