Bhubaneswar: Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Thursday said the state government is taking action against the commercial use of residential buildings, as per the Supreme Court guidelines.
The minister said nearly 6,000 seizure notices have so far been issued to people found using residential properties for commercial purposes. The department has also identified around 300 houses where such commercial activities are causing traffic-related problems.
According to Mahapatra, commercial establishments should not operate from residential areas where they create traffic and public safety concerns. The Housing and Urban Development Department is examining these cases and taking necessary action.
The minister said the government is trying to maintain a balance between protecting businesses and ensuring public safety while also complying with the Supreme Court’s directions.
Mahapatra further said the Supreme Court has reprimanded states that have failed to comply with its guidelines on the issue.
He added that people who may face difficulties due to the action can apply through the Sujog portal.
