Sambalpur: The district police on Friday arrested five persons for allegedly recording and circulating a video featuring a female sankirtan (devotional kirtan) singer on social media.
The accused have been identified as Raja Badhei, Rabindriya Seth, Sushant Bagh, Shambhu Prasad Pradhan from Sambalpur, and Deepak Mahar from Ulunda area in neighbouring Sonepur district.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by the victim and a subsequent case registered at the Cyber Crime and Economic Offences police station in Sambalpur under Sections 78, 79 and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 along with Sections 67 and 67(A) of the Information Technology Act.
Five mobile phones believed to have been used for recording and sharing the video have been seized.
