19 Students Hospitalised After Consuming ‘Stale’ Snacks In Odisha School

Sundargarh: More than 50 students of a government school were hospitalised after reportedly consuming stale snacks in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Thursday.

The students of Classes 9 and 10 of Salangabuda panchayat high school complained of vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea and abdominal pain after consuming snacks at a programme on Wednesday afternoon.

Sources said the students were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Majhapara for treatment. While 38 male students felt better after preliminary treatment, 19 female students were admitted to Majhapara CHC. Out of them, eight students have been shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital at Sundargarh, where they are under critical care.

Parents have alleged that the stale snacks caused sickness in the students. Since the students fell ill on Thursday morning after consuming the snacks in the afternoon and dinner in the evening at the hostel, the exact cause is not yet known. Authorities have assured an investigation will be launched to determine the reason.
