15 persons booked for breaching security cordon during Rath Yatra
Puri: The Simhadwar police initiated criminal proceedings against 15 persons who had breached the security cordon on July 12 during the Rath Yatra. Police booked the 15 persons for violating Covid norms and breaching the security cordon near the three chariots. However, no arrest has been made so far.
The criminal cases were registered after the police scanned the CCTV and live telecast footages on the Rath Yatra day to identify whether any intruder was present inside the cordon during the festival.
The administration had banned the participation of the devotees in the Rath Yatra, clamped curfew in the town and sealed all the roads to the Rath Yatra venue to ensure that no devotee enters the town to witness the festival.
48-hour curfew from July 19
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC will be clamped in Puri from 8 pm on Monday till 8 pm on July 21 in view of Bahuda Yatra, the return journey of deities to Jagannath Temple, informed Collector Samarth Verma on Saturday.
Restrictions, as imposed during the Rath Yatra, will be enforced during the Bahuda Yatra. People residing on the Bada Danda stretch will not be allowed to congregate on their roofs to watch Bahuda Yatra.
Meanwhile, the “Dakshina Moda” ritual or the southward turn of the three chariots of Lord Jagannath and His siblings parked outside Gundicha Temple began on Saturday after the servitors brought “Agnya Mala” after Sakala Dhupa. As per the ritual, Debadalana, the chariot of Devi Subhadra, is first turned towards Jagannath Temple in the south. It is followed by Lord Balabhadra’s Taladhwaja and Jagannath’s Nandighosh to complete the ritual.
