World Green Cover better than What It Was 20 Years Ago
The World, according to NASA, is a greener place than what it was two decades ago. Much of the credit goes to India and China for their aggressive plantation programmes that helped the green cover increase despite a substantial rise in land use and exploitation of water resources for their economic and industrial growth.
The destruction of green cover during the 70s and 80s by these two countries have amply been compensated. Infact, India continues to be the world leader in tree planting with the involvement of its population.
NASA used Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) to get a detailed picture of the world’s green cover.
