Ranji Trophy: Odisha register comprehensive win against J&K
Bhubaneswar: Odisha secured a much needed win against Jammu and Kashmir in a Group-C Ranji Trophy match by defeating the hosts with a comprehensive margin of 8 wickets.
After containing the hosts to a low score of 127 at the Govt Gandhi Memorial Science College ground in Jammu, Odisha performed exceedingly well with the bat. Abhisek Raut was the pick of the batsman for his brilliant ton of 116 not out while Debasish Samantaray also gave his valuable contribution with a fighting half century of 85 runs. The visitors managed to put up a daunting 323 runs on the board in the first innings.
However, for the hosts, J&K , Parvez Rasool starred with the bat in the second innings by notching 158 runs on the board. The hosts secured a comeback in the match with the help of good contribution from the tail-enders and amassed a huge 391 runs.
With a target of 196 runs to chase in the last few sessions of the day 4, Odisha won the match in a dominant fashion with the help of two half centuries from Shantanu Mishra (78) and Subhransu Senapati (72).
Abhisek Raut was judged Man of the Match for his inspiring ton that helped the visitors cement a good total for the match.
With three wins and a draw from seven matches, Odisha now sits on 5th position, with just one place behind Assam in the points table.
It will play its next match against the Services side on December 30 at Airforce Complex ground, Palam, New Delhi Services.
