Political murder: CM orders stringent action against culprits
Khurda, April 15: As the supporters of BJP forced a six hour bandh in the town on Monday following the killing of Mandal President Manguli Jena, Chief Minister and BJD Supremo, Naveen Patnaik condemned the murder and promised stringent action against the killers. Jena was shot at from close range by miscreants, alleged to be BJD supporters, last night close to the residence of the BJP candidate for the Assembly, Kalu Khandayatray.
While police are yet to nab anyone despite Patnaik’s order to go hard on the killers, a different story is being propagated by the police as the reason for the killing. Dismissing the incident as an outcome of the political rivalry between BJP and BJD, sources in the police are giving a colour of casteist tension behind Jena’s elimination. They say that Jena’s visit to an area inhabited by a particular caste who has been receiving an unfair treatment from the businessmen of Gandhi Nagar market close by infuriated some who pumped bullets at him.
