Nandan Nilekani to head high level committee on digital payments
Bhubaneswar: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today appointed former Unique Identification Authority of India chairman Nandan Nilekani as the chief of a five-member high level committee which will help push country’s digital payments sector to a new level.
With a view of encourage digitization of payments and enhance financial inclusion through digitization, the Reserve Bank has decided to constitute a high-level committee on deepening digital payments, the RBI said in its statement.
The apex bank has also asked the panel to submit its first report within 90 days of the first meeting.
Besides, Nilekani, four other members of the committee are RBI Deputy Governor HR Khan, former MD and CEO of Vijaya Bank Kishore Sansi, former IT and Steel Ministry Secretary Aruna Sharma and chief innovation officer, CIIE, IIM-Ahmedabad.
RBI in its statement also added that the chief aim of the committee will be review the existing status of digitization of payments, identify the loopholes and suggest remedies to bridge them.
