Kalinganagar firing anniversary observed amid tight security
Jajpur: Thousands of tribals under the aegis of Bisthapana Birodhi Janmanch today congregated to observe the 13th anniversary of the firing incident that claimed lives of 13 tribals at Champakoili in Kalinganangar industrial area.
The tribal outfit observed the occasion as ‘Sahid Smruti Diwas’ (Martyr’s Day) to pay tributes to the victims who lost their lives during the firing incident.
Members of the organization performed rituals and later took out a rally towards ‘Birbhumi’ in Ambagadia where the victims were cremated.
To ensure that the event is conducted without any untoward incident, the district administration had made adequate security arrangements. Seven platoons of police force, two magistrates and two DSPs were deployed on the spot to maintain law and order in the area.
As many as 13 tribals were gunned down during a face-off with police as they were protesting land acquisition for TATA Steel Plant in the industrial area.
